Large rectangular dial with inner scale for Izod and outer scale for Charpy test, in Joules. The Pendulum is supported separately in two positions by a common latching tube : the upper position for Charpy test and the lower for Izod test. Front guard provided for safety of operation. Manual brake for stopping pendulum oscillation after sample failure. Common specimen holder for Izod & Charpy test. Separate strikers for Izod & Charpy test.
The Pendulum is mounted on antifriction bearings. It has two starting positions, the upper one for Charpy and the lower one for Izod testing. On release, the pendulum swings down to break the specimen and the energy absorbed in doing so is measured as the difference between the height of drop before rupture and the height of rise after rupture of the test specimen and is read from the position of maximum pointer on the dial scale.
Dial Unit :
The energy utilised to break Izod or Charpy specimen is clearly indicated by the position of the maximum pointer on the dial. There are two large angular scales on the dial, inner for Izod test and outer for Charpy scale with 300 J x 2 J as minimum graduation.
Controls of Pendulum :
The pendulum is supported in the starting position by a self resetting latch. The Charpy release mechanism is operated by lever. The pendulum release latch is operated only when this lever is operated.
